Three major additions are planned for summer 2011 at Legends Outlets Kansas City, delivering an ongoing commitment to bring the top outlet fashion brands in the industry to the shopping center. The new additions are the only locations in the region for Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH, J. Crew Factory and Under Armour Factory House. The addition of these leading brand outlet concepts delivers on a promise to create a high-style, high-value shopping destination and officially celebrates the one-year anniversary of the new Legends Outlets Kansas City. Since moving to a designer destination outlet concept, Legends Outlets has received a positive response from the fashion conscious in Kansas City and surrounding markets, reaching more than 10 million visitors in 2010.
OTB Destination, LLC, with offices in Omaha, Neb. and Scottsdale, Ariz., was engaged last year to reposition the Legends Outlets shopping center by developing and executing the strategy to bring more upscale outlet fashion brands to the center. “These brands are a powerful retail combination for Kansas City consumers,” said Lee Ra Johnson of OTB Destination. “Each of these new tenants joining Legends Outlets Kansas City are destinations in their own right. The footprint just increased significantly for Legends Outlets as a leading destination for value, entertainment and style with the already established outlet brands like Nike, Brooks Brothers, Tommy Hilfiger, Banana Republic, BCBGMAXAZRIA and LOFT.”
Legends Outlets has reported double-digit sales increases by multiple outlet tenants since announcing the transformation to an upscale outlet destination with an overall center revenue increase of nine percent and a five percent increase in traffic. All of the reported gains are higher than national reported averages.
“When we examined entering the Kansas City market, the right tenant mix and customer profile were critical,” says Robert T. Wallstrom, President, OFF 5TH and Executive Vice President of the Company. “Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH continues to see growth in the next generation of outlets. Legends Outlets captured our attention and made us take another look at this growing area in the market. We are excited to bring our designer portfolio and brands back to Kansas City.”
The grand re-opening of Legends Outlets Kansas City coincides with significant activity in the Village West area that creates a destination of experiences, including the 18,500-seat LiveStrong Sporting Park, the Hollywood Casino and the new Cerner corporate campus, all expected to open in the next 12 to 18 months.
In June, The Livestrong Sporting Park will hold its grand opening with a nationally televised U.S. Soccer game at Sporting Kansas City's new Major League Soccer stadium. Schlitterbahn Vacation Village will open its $150 million phase two expansion. Nebraska Furniture Mart, Kansas Speedway and Cabela's continue to be regional attractions as the combined area of Village West remains the top tourist destination in the state of Kansas.
Additionally, as recently announced, the Chico’s and Soma Intimates outlet concepts will open at Legends Outlets Kansas City in June 2011. Other additions that have opened since announcing the transformation include LOFT Outlet and Christopher & Banks/CJ Banks Outlet. Several concepts transitioned to the outlet formats, including Sunglass Hut, Helzberg Diamonds, Zales, American Eagle and Old Navy. The continued outlet evolution that is underway also requires some existing tenants to relocate. Books-A-Million is now open in a temporary location near Yard House. Sports Nutz will relocate next to Five Guys Burgers and Fries while Scooter's Coffeehouse is temporarily closed due to remodeling.
